Quakenet is one of the newer, yet one of the biggest IRC networks out there today. Quakenet was formed in 1997 to give a place to gamers of Quakeworld to be able to meet. It rapidly grew into a meeting place for other games as well. Their rapid growth is most likely related to the focusgroup of users, as well as advanced services for the users.

Underworld linked into Quakenet with underworld.no.quakenet.org in March 2006 from UNINETT in Trondheim, and then linked underworld2.no.quakenet.org in december 2006 from UNINETT in Oslo.
